Nintendo DSi Matte Blue

Nintendo DSi Matte Blue

Now I find Nintendo DSi Matte Blue You can see Now!

BuZZ from Customer Shopping

Received this as an upgrade to a first gen Nintendo DS5
I just got this DS as an upgrade to my first generation clunky silver DS. When I first saw the gift, I'll admit I was reluctant. I was quite happy with my first gen DS. But when I turned it on and compared side to side- what a difference!!!

The DSi is les bulky, the matte finish is easier to hold, and the stylus is bigger and a little more comfortable to hold.

The screen is MUCH bigger and brighter, which alone is a major plus. You don't realize what you're missing until you try your favorite game and realize that your eyes don't strain as much anymore!

I'm happy with the sound (I didn't do a side-by-side test to see what was better).

And mostly, there are a lot of new things that you didn't have before, such as:

-The camera- it's not high resolution and only meant for fun with picture taking, and I assume for game play in the future.

-SD card slot- which means you can use it to play music (AAC audio and .mp4, .m4a, .3GP)- unfortunately NOT MP3s- but I haven't tried anything YET. And I'm sure a number of other uses I haven't even thought of yet.

-internet browser that you can download for free!!!! That means at airport trips I can just use my DSi instead of whipping out my laptop (a plus for people who don't have fancy phones- guilty as charged!!!)

-I'm probably forgetting something, but I'm sure other reviews will cover it!

I connected to the internet very easily, I tested out the browser and was very pleased to be able to navigate the web (although some sites will only work on IE, I'm hoping and praying that maybe there will be an IE compatible function in the future).

I'm optimistic about DSWare: an online store called the DSi Shop that you can access directly from the DSi where you can use Nintendo Points to download DSiWare games and applications to the internal memory of the DSi system. At the time of this review there are only 8 downloads available, and I didn't download any- waiting for better options!

And finally, I wasn't exactly excited about the sound editor or the picture features but I'll admit that they're a lot of fun. Just simple goofy fun, but fun nonetheless.

Overall I recommend the DSi as an upgrade to the first gen DS, there are definitely noticeable improvements, and there is a lot of promise for what you can do with it (internet is a plus, as are the capabilities with having an SD card, and DSWare is most definitely promising)

I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to get it if you really are completely HAPPY with your DS as is, and only intend to use your handheld for gaming only.

If you ARE hoping to find versatility out of the DS series, DSi is the way to go, but you might want to wait awhile and see what apps are created to go along with it as it develops.

And if you don't have ANY version of the DS- what are you waiting for!!!! You're missing out on a great handheld console, I've enjoyed my DS and will continue to enjoy DSi for a long time!

Great for kids, teens, and adults alike5
I purchased one of these for each of my three boys, who are six, thirteen, and fourteen. The six year old loves this as much as the teens do, and my husband and I are impressed as well. The features on this device are great. This is a great device for fun, and it can be used to make studying fun as well. These are the features that I find most useful:

-Web browser: I can check my e-mail and surf the web just fine on the DSI. It's not as fast as my computer, but it's really not that slow either. The set up is easy to use. I like it better than the Wii web browser.

-Cameras: The picture quality is fine for the size of the DSI screens. You cannot take high quality pictures for printing, but for playing and storing or sharing between DSI's, the quality is great. It also snaps surprisingly good pictures in low light environments. The photo editor is awesome. There are many nice features, and it is very easy to use. I don't think I've ever had so much fun while taking pictures.

-Pictochat: This is a nice feature for chatting when you have more than one DSI in the area. It can, however, be used for other things than chatting. My six year old uses this application to practice his spelling. I say the word, he writes it. He can scroll back through all of the words he has written after the test is done.

-Download capability: There are only a few titles available for download at this time, but they seem to be rolling out quickly. I looked the other day and noticed two new titles available. They have some titles that make use of the camera's and it is very neat. We downloaded Brain Age and it makes use of the cameras. There are going to be many great titles in the future. Being able to download the games and have them stored on the system makes a huge difference, in my opinion.

-SD card slot: You can have as much storage as you need.

-Sound editor: All three of my children play with the sound editor a great deal. I am excited about this feature, because I believe that it is a fun way for my youngest son to practice his speech. He can also use it to give himself spelling tests. He uses one bubble for each word, then plays it back and writes the word.

All in all, I think the DSI is worth buying. When you count all the features that are rolled into one device, I think it's a great value.
